One Month Until The Reanimator’s Remains

I am so excited because in a month, The Reanimator’s Remains (The Reanimator Mysteries #3) comes out in ebook and paperback. During October, I’m going to be sharing more of the story along with some fun tidbits about why this book came to be, what it’s about, etc.

Today, I want to whet your appetite by giving you some things I listened to and looked at while working on The Reanimator’s Remains.

First up, we have the YouTube playlist for The Reanimator’s Remains. I really love this playlist because the songs are so moody and fit oh so well with the creepy, woodsy ambience of this story. Compared to past playlists, it feels a bit ballad-heavy, but since this book is a slightly slower, more inwardly focused story, I think that works. Some favs:

You might have noticed there are quite a few songs from Shawn James, including “Orpheus,” “Haunted,” and “Through the Valley” among others. His deep, almost smokey voice adds such richness to his music, and of course, the subject matter of his songs is perfect for The Reanimator’s Remains. “Orpheus” is especially so.

“My Attic” which is a P!nk cover sung by Adam Lambert perfectly encapsulates Oliver and Felipe’s relationship in this book as both of them work to deal with parts of their pasts and family histories that are better hidden or left unsaid.

You might also notice songs like “The Lullaby of Woe” and “O Willow Waly,” which are meant to evoke the spookiness of the Dysterwood in book 3. If you loved the creepy cathedral in book 1, you’re going to love the Dysterwood. There’s plenty more on the “soundtrack” for this book, so I hope you enjoy it!

And I cannot give you previews without sharing the infamous Pinterest Board for The Reanimator’s Remains.

The Pinterest board has some research tidbits from this book along with my face castings for Oliver, Felipe, and Gwen. Yes, Gwen is heavily featured in this book! Gwen fans rejoice! If you’ve been wondering what The Reanimator’s Remains is about, the Pinterest board and playlist together should give you a pretty good idea of the mood and some themes. The boys are going through it.

Today, I want to whet your appetite by giving you some things I listened to and looked at while working on The Reanimator’s Soul.

First up, we have the YouTube playlist for The Reanimator’s Soul. These are songs that I think relate really well to the story but were not necessarily things I listened to on repeat while writing that (those were weird ambience tracks). Some highlights that might give you the tone:

“Against the Kitchen Floor” by Will Wood encapsulates Ansley and Oliver’s past relationship pretty well as well as the scars Oliver has from that relationship. Will Wood writes a lot of music neurodivergent and/or mentally ill people can relate to.

You’ll also notice a few song from Poor Man’s Poison. They are quickly becoming one of my favorite folk(ish) bands. They sing a lot of about social injustices, the rich v. the poor, and they are catchy as hell. It works very well for a book about how medicine can uphold white supremacist ideologies.

“Where You Go I Go” by Fight the Fade felt like the perfect song for Oliver and Felipe’s relationship, like so spot on I made my partner listen to it. There’s plenty more on the “soundtrack” for this book, so I hope you enjoy it.

This is one of my favorite things to share because I get to throw a bunch of random photos and quotes at you and let you concoct your own plot for the story. I have a lot of face-casting pictures for the characters along with some pics of Victorian things you might expect to see, and plenty of moody quotes to hammer home those feelings.

Hi everyone,

This will be a short blog post before I run up to the university for the night.

You may have noticed the new banner at the top of my page. I decided to go to Fiverr and get a logo made for the Ingenious Mechanical Devices series, which hopefully will be used in the future for t-shirts or mugs at events and down the line a table banner for when I do author events. Honestly, I love it. I have been gushing over it for the past two days and am dying to go to Cafepress and make up a t-shirt or something. I’m easily excitable at times.

The second point I would like to mention is: The Winter Garden is still doing well on Amazon! The ebook and paperback launched last Sunday, and the response has been quite good. I have 4 reviews thus far, all 5s or 4s, and if you are interested in reading it, please check it out here. I’ll do a post about the reviews after I get a few more, so in a week or two.

On to the next: I have finished my thesis proposal! It is done! All I need to do is finish the bibliography, which I’m just too lazy to compile because it’s time consuming and I’m waiting for two books to come in the mail. In a few weeks, I will turn it in and wait for the committee to hopefully approve it. The project will be book #3 of the Ingenious Mechanical Devices series, but if you want a little hint as to what I am up to, you can check out the Pinterest board for it here. With school and miscellaneous projects, it has been a slow go, but in a month or two, my writing should pick up.

My final piece of mind vomit is, projects! I feel like as soon as I half-think of one project, another one pops up in my mind. If you are a fan of the Ingenious Mechanical Devices series, I can already let you know that there will be a third book (Eilian and Hadley), a fourth book (Emmeline, Immanuel, Adam), and a book in between, which will contain two novellas (Adam and Immanuel and one focusing on Emmeline) and possibly a few short stories that will fall somewhere between books two and four. Stay tuned for more news down the line. I hope you all are as excited as I am.
